Central Board of Secondary Education has Commerce as one of the main streams apart from (Humanities) Arts, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Physics Chemistry and Math, and a combination of PCMB.

The recent 2022 syllabus for class 12 commerce stream and term breakdown will be addressed in this article.

The core subjects include Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, English and one elective which is different in different schools like Fine Arts, Psychology, Web Technology, IT, C++, Maths, Physical Education, Home Science, Entrepreneurship etc.

For the academic sessions 2021 and 2022, Term 1 exams will be held between November-December 2021 and the duration of exam will be 1 hour. The question type will be Multiple Choice Questions which will be captured through OMR sheets.

It will be held and observed by external superintendents appointed by CBSE. The weightage will be given equally to both Term 1 and Term 2.

For the academic session 2021 and 2022, Term 2 exams will be held between March-April 2022 and the duration of exam will be 2 hours offline or online.

The question type will be Multiple Choice Questions or short type, long type, situation based and cased base which will be captured through OMR sheets or depending on the pandemic condition.

Contribution in overall Score Pandemic Condition Improves and Both Exams will be held offline:

Equal weightage to both Term 1 and Term 2 exams

Term 1 Exam Online and Term II Exam Offline:

Term I will be given lesser weightage than term II in such a condition

Term I Exam will be Offline and Term II Exam will be Offline:

Term I will be given more weightage than term II exams

If both Term 1 and Term II Exams are held online due to complete lockdown:

Results will be computed on the basis of the Internal Assessment / Practical / Project Work and Theory Marks of Term I and Term II exams taken by the candidate from home in class X or Class XII subject to the moderation or other measures to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment. Throughout the year irrespective of Term I or Term II.

Accountancy Syllabus for Class 12

The course in accountancy is introduced at plus-two  stages of senior secondary school education, as the formal commerce education is provided after ten years of schooling.

With the fast changing economic scenario, accounting as a source of financial information has carved out a place for itself at the senior secondary stage.

Its syllabus content provides students a firm foundation in basic accounting concepts and methodology and also acquaints them with the changes taking place in the preparation and presentation of financial statements in accordance with the applicable accounting standards and the Companies Act 2013.

Theory for class 12 amounts to 80 and project amounts to 20 marks each respectively.

There are 3 parts- Part A, Part B and Part C.

The benefits of it and objective as per the board are-

1. To familiarize students with new and emerging areas in the preparation and presentation of financial statements.

2. To acquaint students with basic accounting concepts and accounting standards.

3. To develop the skills of designing a need based accounting database.

4. To appreciate the role of ICT in business operations.

5. To develop an understanding about recording of business transactions and preparation of financial statements.

6. To enable students with accounting for Not-for-Profit organizations, accounting for Partnership Firms, and company accounts.

Business Studies Syllabus for Class 12

The courses in Business Studies and Accountancy are introduced at + 2 stages of Senior Secondary Education as formal commerce education is provided after the first ten years of schooling.

Therefore, it becomes necessary that instructions in these subjects are given in such a manner that students have a good understanding of the principles and practices bearing in business (trade and industry) as well as their relationship with the society.

Theory for class Business Studies class 12 amounts to 80 and project amounts to 20 marks each respectively for a duration of 3 hours.

There are 3 parts- Part A, Part B and Part C.

1. To inculcate business attitude and develop skills among students to pursue higher education, world of work including self employment.

2. To develop students with an understanding of the processes of business and its environment

3. To acquaint students with the dynamic nature and interdependent aspects of business;  To develop an interest in the theory and practice of business, trade and industry

4. To familiarize students with theoretical foundations of the process of organizing and managing the operations of a business firm

5. To help students appreciate the economic and social significance of business activity and the social cost and benefits arising from there.

6. To acquaint students with the practice of managing the operations and resources of business.

7. To enable students to act more effectively and responsibly as consumers, employers, employees and citizens.

Economics Syllabus for Class 12

Economics is one of the social sciences, which has great influence on every human being. As economic life and the economy go through changes, the need to ground education in children’s own experience becomes essential. While doing so, it is imperative to provide them opportunities to acquire analytical skills to observe and understand the economic realities.

2. Realization of learners’ role in nation building and sensitivity to the economic issues that the nation is facing today.

3. Equipment with basic tools of economics and statistics to analyze economic issues.

4. This is pertinent for even those who may not pursue this course beyond senior secondary stage.

5. Development of understanding that there can be more than one view on any economic issue and necessary skills to argue logically with reasoning.
