‘Teachers are extremely supportive’: GIIS student testimonials

Learning

Embarking on the pivotal journey of education, students often find themselves navigating a landscape rich with diverse experiences, challenges and growth. And it can be easily underlined that one factor — the most important one  —  is the teachers who are the backbone of their learning journey.

Moreover, in today’s digital age when this is supported by a learning environment that’s technologically advanced and has multiple facilities and opportunities to amplify the experience — students have the opportunity to not just blossom but thrive in success.

In this blog, we delve into the student life of GIIS IBDP alumni, exploring their unique journeys through the time they spent at school. From the guidance provided by school teachers to the camaraderie of peers and unconditional friendships, we unfold a firsthand account that encapsulates the transformative power of education.

These student testimonials are a glimpse into the mosaic of learning, resilience and moments that shape one’s student life.

‘My teachers helped me excel’

“I’ve spent more than a decade at GIIS. My teachers were extremely supportive and always helped me excel in my studies, and extracurricular and co-curricular activities. The facilities were well-maintained and I had a great time using them. Our IBDP coordinator, Ms. Deepa encouraged us throughout those two years (of IBDP).

“Throughout my school life, I’ve had a very supportive group of friends with whom I could discuss my assignments. I am thankful for all the support I was provided by my teachers and friends,” says Rituparna Mishra, IBDP 2023 graduate.

Another alumna, Arushi Anand, a 2023 GIIS IBDP graduate, adds: “The culture at GIIS is inclusive, and the teachers are friendly and supportive. They guided us throughout the class and outside as well. I made many friends at GIIS who were truly a support system in my high school journey.”

Nurturing leadership and passion

GIIS fosters growth beyond academics, providing students with umpteen opportunities, acting as a catalyst for personal growth and pursuit of diverse interests.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my role as the Vice-President of GIIS Art Club, which helped me gain teamwork skills. I had the opportunity to participate in the GIIS Hackathon for three years with my friends.

“For the Ignite International Inter-School Entrepreneurship Challenge 2021, I worked with a team to introduce an app named Unic, that would connect university students together and help them feel more comfortable living abroad. I had the opportunity to design our presentation and worked with a great team who put in a lot of effort at each step of the competition. I was also able to improve my marketing and public speaking skills,” says

Akshaya Singh, IBDP 2023 graduate.

“GIIS gave me a platform to dive into my interests, especially when I started my own Economics-themed Club. I was also encouraged to participate in social service by being a board member of the INTERACT club,” adds Arushi.

Teachers at GIIS integrate a growth mindset into teaching, enabling students to learn from their mistakes. Our faculty members foster a classroom culture, which champions an adaptive mindset, resulting in more resilient, motivated, and successful students. Our students are better equipped to confront academic challenges and navigate their futures.

“We create a classroom culture where mistakes are viewed as natural and valuable learning experiences. We encourage students to reflect on their mistakes and use them as opportunities for growth and understanding.

“We provide them opportunities to take intellectual risks and explore unfamiliar topics or perspectives. We create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and seeking help,” says Ms. Deepa Chandrasekaran, GIIS IBDP coordinator.

‍The IB Diploma Programme, a demanding two-year pre-university curriculum at GIIS, prioritises intellectual, personal, and social development. Emphasising a broad and balanced curriculum, it nurtures 21st-century skills like critical thinking, research proficiency, and an international perspective.
