Learner Profile
IB primary schools follow approaches that encourage student learners who have the potential to wonder, question, inquire and theorize - about themselves and the world around them. Learners create their own learning needs through an inquiry-based approach to education, which is transcends disciplines through concept-based models of teaching and learning. Learners are encouraged to demonstrate imaginative minds, and agile traits to respond to challenges and opportunities for the betterment of themselves and the world.
At the end of five years, the learners celebrate their achievements through exhibitions which helps them share their learnings and understandings with the larger community.

Teaching And Learning
Teaching and learning complement each other in the PYP approach, where engaging and relevant material meets challenging and significant inquirers. This collaboration develops knowledgeable, and caring students who have an intercultural understanding and respect for the world and multidimensional world view.
Subjects are taught in a transdisciplinary manner, guided by subject areas like ‘who we are, ‘where we are, ‘how we express ourselves’, and more. This powerful approach helps students learn to appreciate knowledge, understand concepts and connect them to skills and personal attributes.

Data Analytics at GIIS
GIIS has a unique methodology to check the academic and non-academic progress of our students. We have devised methods and installed platforms which give us raw data on students’ performances inside and outside the classroom.
Data Analytics in academics at GIIS is called the 7S method, in which teachers and coordinators gather stats on a student’s marks in seven different areas of development. This includes school, segment, section, subject, subject-teacher, student and summary. Data Analytics in Sports is called SPEDAS, where devices on playgrounds and on the student’s person, capture on-field movement which is converted to data.
Both data are then studied by the teacher to determine progress of the student in all areas of development, and an assessment is done which helps students understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Our Facilities
With 40+ skills-based studios, digital classrooms and well-designed Learning Commons and Student Innovation Rooms, the GIIS SMART Campus stands out as an exemplary premises where IB Diploma students can gain maximum benefits in their learning journey. What's it like to be part of GIIS family
“When I joined GIIS in 2018, I didn’t expect to make any friends and was really scared of not being able to catch up with the classes. But to my surprise, everyone here is really supportive of me and helps me to learn basic concepts again. I was really happy to have teachers who I can rely on when I feel really low and unmotivated with my studies. Even now, in my last final year of the IBDP, GIIS offers me so many great opportunities and gives guidance to those who don’t know what to do later on. I have truly enjoyed my time in GIIS. Even after I graduate, I will come back to say thank you to my teachers who helped me so much along the way.”
Jessica Mastronikolis
GIIS IB Year 2 student
“I'm very impressed with the kindergarten teachers' warmth and passion for children at GIIS. We are very comfortable communicating with the teachers. Both my children, Minjoon and Joonhee are very happy to go to school and meet their teachers and friends everyday. I can see their development from every angle."

Fuuko has good teachers and enjoys the school library a lot. From being a shy student when she joined GIIS, she has now become a confident learner who actively participates in her class.”

IB PYP is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program offering an inquiry-based transdisciplinary curriculum essential for the all-round development of students. It is applicable for primary students from Grade 1 to Grade 5.
The Primary Years Program is a learning framework for students in the age group of 3-12 years designed by the International Baccalaureate organisation. This programme recognizes the natural talent of a child, like curiosity to learn, creativity, and ability to reflect and foster them with a fun, enthusiastic, and challenging learning environment to become lifelong learners.
In this programme, students are taught about specific and important concepts through units of inquiry. The six transdisciplinary themes that guide units of inquiry and compose a year of study are:
● Who we are
● Where we are in place and time
● How we express ourselves
● How the world works
● How we organize ourselves
● Sharing the planet
IB PYP with its transdisciplinary learning approach helps students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore challenges and opportunities on the global front in real life contexts. IB PYP curriculum will also help students to adapt to a new curriculum in any school across the globe.
There are 8 key concepts involved in the PYP curriculum that are:
Form, Function, Causation, Change, Connection, Perspective, Responsibility, and Reflection. It improves the understating of the students of a concept and how it can be viewed from various perspectives.
The five elements of the PYP (Primary Years Programme) include: Knowledge, Concepts, Skills, Attitudes, and Action. These elements foster holistic development and critical thinking skills among students, preparing them for rigorous academic pursuits and global citizenship.
The IB Primary Years Programme is applicable for students studying from class 1 to class 5 (between the age group of 5 to 12 years).
In the student-centered approach, the student can choose what they want to study and how a certain topic interests them. This enhances their participation, they become independent thinkers and problem solvers and improves their critical thinking capabilities.
Transdisciplinary learning approach builds the conceptual understanding of students. The exploration of a concept happens with various perspectives by the students that help them to get a deeper understanding of concepts.
In the collaborative learning approach, students are made to work in groups to increase knowledge and share information with peers. This kind of learning helps in better understanding and retaining information and there is a positive learning environment created.
