IB Curriculum at Global Indian International School in Singapore
The IBDP, popularly referred to as a pre-university qualification, encourages a breadth and depth of knowledge, and importantly, application of that knowledge to real world situations. The IBDP curriculum also includes the DP core – which comprises Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service).
DP core
The three core elements of the IBDP enable students to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios and broaden their educational experience. It allows students to reflect on prior knowledge, dig deeper into their areas of interest, conduct their own research and engage in community service.
Theory of Knowledge
In this core DP component, students are encouraged to ask questions, engage in critical thinking, understand ambiguity, and manage uncertainty when dealing with questions that have multiple possible answers. Assessments in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) include both internal and external components.
Extended Essay
Through the Extended Essay (EE), students develop skills in conducting independent research, drawing conclusions, managing their time and communicating ideas. It provides an opportunity to students to go deep in an area of their interest. The culmination is a 4,000-word essay.
Creativity, Activity, Service
In the Creativity, Activity and Service component (CAS), students actively participate in collaborative projects to explore solutions to problems, adapt to new roles and embrace challenges. They typically take up service projects, develop a sense of community and responsibility towards the environment.
Bilingual Diploma
Besides offering the standard IBDP to secondary students, GIIS offers the Bilingual Diploma, which includes additional language requirements. Students can earn a Bilingual Diploma by completing two languages selected from Subject Group 1 (Studies in Language and Literature). A student must successfully complete one of the English options from Group 1 AND one of the French / Spanish options from Group 1 to obtain the Bilingual Diploma.
Every student has a unique learning path. Check if the IBDP is the right fit for your child.

What's it like to be part of GIIS family
“When I joined GIIS in 2018, I didn’t expect to make any friends and was really scared of not being able to catch up with the classes. But to my surprise, everyone here is really supportive of me and helps me to learn basic concepts again. I was really happy to have teachers who I can rely on when I feel really low and unmotivated with my studies. Even now, in my last final year of the IBDP, GIIS offers me so many great opportunities and gives guidance to those who don’t know what to do later on. I have truly enjoyed my time in GIIS. Even after I graduate, I will come back to say thank you to my teachers who helped me so much along the way.”
Jessica Mastronikolis
GIIS IB Year 2 student
“I'm very impressed with the kindergarten teachers' warmth and passion for children at GIIS. We are very comfortable communicating with the teachers. Both my children, Minjoon and Joonhee are very happy to go to school and meet their teachers and friends everyday. I can see their development from every angle."
Ms. Mihee Kwon
Parent of Minjoon and Joonhee
I truly appreciate the management and staff at GIIS for their commendable effort in achieving a seamless transition to Home-Based Learning (HBL) during the lockdown and subsequent measures due to Covid-19. Every email from GIIS related to COVID measures showed how professionally they handled the pandemic situation.
Ms. Sujatha Gurunathan
Parent of Harshita G
“Every teacher and staff in the primary school calls Fuuko by her name when they see her. They all know her well and this makes us feel welcome at GIIS. Fuuko has good teachers and enjoys the school library a lot. From being a shy student when she joined GIIS, she has now become a confident learner who actively participates in her class.”
Mr. Hiroyuki Watanabe
Parent of Fuuko Watanabe
“Inspite of traveling from Dover everyday, it has been a pleasant surprise to us that Rahul, our younger son, loves to come to school and feels completely at home at GIIS. He is involved in many activities and sports in school and we are extremely glad that GIIS believes in holistic development of its students. Thanks to the teachers for instilling a sense of confidence in the students and encouraging them to make a difference to the community that they live in.“

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a pre-university programme for students aged 16-19. Students study six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. In addition, students write an Extended Essay and follow a critical thinking course entitled Theory of Knowledge. Participation in creative activities, sport, and services is also required.
The IB was introduced in the late 1960s to cater to a growing number of mobile students so that they could understand differences and similarities on a global scale and become internationally minded.
The IB Diploma Programme develops the leaders needed by the future workplace – people who know how to collaborate and understand the value of teamwork, people with analytical capability, versatility, and international understanding. It is a broad curriculum with an emphasis on the development of skills fit for the 21st-century workplace and for employment in the careers of tomorrow which are yet to be defined
The programme is committed to fostering a set of values and attributes described as the IB Learner Profile. IB graduates are thinkers, inquirers, communicators, principled (acting with integrity and honesty), open-minded, caring (showing compassion and respect to others), while at the same time being risk-takers, reflective, and understanding the need for balance in their lives. IBDP is for motivated students who like to be challenged and have a love for learning.

Students with IB Diplomas who now attend universities, report that their involvement with IB has given them the confidence needed to make the most of their post-secondary education. In particular, students comment on their sense of preparedness, their self-confidence, their research skills, their ability to manage their time, and their willingness to be actively engaged in their own learning. This confidence will manifest itself to superior critical thinking, reading, writing, organisational, and collaborative abilities.
