GIIS Ahmedabad Shines in Karnavati Chess Championship

Schools, Learning

Table of Contents

Young minds at GIIS Ahmedabad have been making headlines across chess championships throughout the region, capturing the attention of chess enthusiasts and educators alike.

Their victories attest to individual talent as well as expert guidance, dedicated practice, and a school culture that values hard work over shortcuts.

Let’s see where our brilliant students have made their mark!

Highlights from the Karnavati Chess Tournament

Three of our students stood out at the Karnavati Chess Tournament in Ahmedabad:

  • Ishayu Maji earned 3rd place in the Under-9 category
  • Aarav Kumar achieved 1st place in the Under-13 category
  • Tanay Saboo secured 2nd place in the Under-17 category

These achievements are a result of weeks of preparation, mental discipline, and practice. Each student worked through complex strategies and stayed focused even during challenging matches.

“The wins at Karnavati are a result of determination and discipline. These students remind us that with the right values, anything is possible,” said Mr Ashok Solanki, their chess coach.

Principal Mr Caesar D’silva added, “These victories reflect not just talent but also the balanced learning environment we offer. Our goal is to help every child grow into a confident, focused and principled individual.”

Chess is one of the many ways GIIS helps students build habits that last a lifetime. The school’s educational approach, rooted in the GMP curriculum, emphasises developing critical thinking skills that students apply both on the chess board and in their academic pursuits.

Margi Chudasama Strikes Gold at National Championship

In a proud moment for the school, Margi Chudasama (Grade 8-MS) won Gold at the National Team Chess Championship 2025. Here’s what she did:

  • Faced more than 200 top players from across India
  • Scored 6 out of 7 points in total
  • Represented GIIS with confidence and skill at every stage

Margi’s success was not a matter of chance. She has been practising regularly, learning from every game and working closely with her coach to understand advanced strategies.

“Margi’s success is a fine example of how much can be achieved through consistency and purpose,” shared Mr Solanki.

“Her achievement isn’t just about winning. It’s about setting a standard for others and showing what focus and passion can lead to,” said Mr D’silva, proudly acknowledging her efforts.

Margi’s win reflects the importance of chess as a learning tool. It helps students plan, evaluate outcomes, and develop decision-making skills that they can apply beyond the classroom.

This success also highlights why GIIS is recognised as one of the best schools in Ahmedabad. Here, students receive support to grow academically and personally in a setting that promotes responsibility and care.

Aatman Raval Earns Silver at Khel Mahakumbh 3.0

Aatman Raval, another dedicated student, took home the silver medal at the Khel Mahakumbh 3.0 State Chess Championship 2025, along with a cash prize.

His training focused on improving focus, maintaining a calm mindset and responding smartly to every situation on the board. His consistent results reflect both skill and strength of character.

Here’s what contributed to his win:

  • Long hours of preparation and analysis
  • Laser focus and mental endurance
  • Support and guidance from Mr Solanki at every step

“Aatman’s focus and perseverance are what brought him success. He’s a role model for his peers,” noted Mr Solanki.

Principal Mr D’silva commented, “This achievement reflects the values we uphold at GIIS Ahmedabad. We are proud of Aatman’s performance and know that many more such moments are ahead of him.”

Chess games for the brain are more than just puzzles—they’re a tool that teaches resilience and independent thinking. These qualities are visible in how Aatman handled pressure during the tournament.

Why Chess Matters in Today’s Education

The benefits of playing chess are many. Students who play regularly show:

  • Better memory and a stronger focus
  • Improved planning and decision-making
  • Greater emotional control and patience
  • Increased academic engagement
  • Better time management and concentration

That is why chess is part of the school’s larger goal to help students build meaningful skills for life. From early years through to high school, GIIS fosters learning environments that balance academics, creativity and competition. This approach is why GIIS stands out among the best pre-primary schools in Ahmedabad.

Mentorship That Makes a Difference

All of these student victories share one common thread—dedicated guidance. Mr Ashok Solanki, who has coached all the achievers, continues to play a pivotal role in their growth.

Moreover, the school environment also plays its part. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions, seek guidance when needed, and use each experience as a chance to grow.

Looking Ahead!

These victories are not the final destination—they’re just the start of greater things to come. As GIIS Ahmedabad continues to support and challenge its students, more achievements are sure to follow.

As more young minds take interest in chess and other activities, GIIS stands ready to support their goals—with strong values, practical learning and a belief in every student’s potential.
