The sun was gentle, the mats were rolled out, and a soft hum of chanting filled the air. On 21st June, GIIS Nagpur came alive with the energy of our little yogis, as they celebrated International Yoga Day in a way that was equal parts playful and powerful.

Children as young as three were seen standing tall in Tadasana, breathing mindfully, and bending with joy in Balasana. Some followed their teachers in a slow-paced Suryanamaskar, while others balanced like trees in Vrikshasana. Each pose was guided gently, with simple words and warm encouragement.

This was more than a school event. It was a beautiful blend of movement, focus, and laughter. And our little ones embraced every moment with open arms and happy hearts.

Bringing Yoga into the Early Years

At GIIS Nagpur, we view yoga as an essential part of early childhood. Not something extra, but something that belongs in the daily routine of growing minds and bodies.

Children at our playschool in Nagpur learn through experience, play, and gentle structure. Yoga helps them build awareness, not just of their body, but of their breath, emotions, and surroundings.

This is why we believe in everyday yoga. A simple five-minute breathing session before circle time. A calming stretch after active play. These moments help children learn to balance both physical and emotional.

On International Yoga Day, this everyday habit was celebrated with colour, music, and guided movement. It was designed to suit their age and energy levels, while quietly building focus and discipline.

What the Day Looked Like

The event began with a group chant of “Om,” followed by light warm-ups to loosen little muscles. Children stood in lines, arms raised confidently in Tadasana, then bent down gently into Padahastasana. The session moved into an adapted version of Suryanamaskar, with slow transitions and lots of teacher support.

Our early years educators guided the children through poses like Bhujangasana (cobra pose), Shashankasana (hare pose), and even the calming Shavasana, where they closed their eyes and simply rested with soft music in the background.

The best part? The joy. Children giggled through poses, tried to balance on one foot, and clapped when they managed something new. One child whispered to her friend, “I feel like a butterfly when I do this.” That’s the magic of yoga when it’s introduced with love.

Designed for Real Learning

Everything about the event was intentional. The music was soothing. The stories told during poses were age-appropriate. Even the pace of the session was slow enough to allow absorption, yet fun enough to hold attention.

Yoga at this age is not about perfect form. It’s about awareness. And that’s exactly what our celebration focused on.

The curriculum at GIIS Nagpur, especially in our Montessori preschool curriculum encourages independent exploration. Yoga fits right in. It allows children to move, feel, and grow without pressure.

We know that parents looking at the nursery admission process want to know what makes a school different. Events like this are our answer. They show how we approach learning not with stress, but with care.

Parent Reactions and Involvement

Many parents joined the session, sitting along the sides with warm smiles and phone cameras. Some of them even followed the breathing exercises with their children. One father said later, “I didn’t realise my daughter knew how to sit still and focus like that. I learnt something from her today.”

Others spoke about how yoga had helped their children sleep better or handle frustration more calmly at home. These aren’t small wins. They’re signs of deeper growth.

If you’re considering filling out the school admission form soon, think of how your child might benefit from these kinds of experiences, where calm, curiosity, and confidence come together.

More Than a Celebration

Our focus was never only on the event. The idea is to make yoga part of everyday life. That’s why teachers at GIIS Nagpur use breathing games, simple stretches, and guided rest as part of regular classroom time.

Even during transitions, from indoor to outdoor play, or lunch to learning, we use yoga-based techniques to help children pause and reset. That’s how everyday yoga becomes real. Not as a performance, but as a lifestyle.

A Culture Rooted in Wellness

Wellness isn’t limited to big campaigns or posters. It’s in the way we greet children every morning. In the peaceful learning corners in our classrooms. In the songs we sing after playtime.

International Yoga Day is an opportunity to highlight what we already practise. And seeing our little yogis move through poses, listen with full attention, and relax with ease, shows us that wellness isn’t something we teach. It’s something we share.

What Comes Next

For parents looking at the next steps in their child’s journey, GIIS Nagpur offers more than a preschool. It offers a space where learning feels natural. Where values like awareness and calm are modelled every day.

Our campus is open for visits, and we’re happy to walk you through our philosophy. Whether you’re curious about our yoga sessions or the structure of our early learning programme, we’re here to answer your questions.

Because when children learn how to stretch with ease, breathe with intention, and play with purpose, they carry those lessons for life.
