Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities at GIIS

Learning

International schools in Singapore provide experiences that are beyond the curriculum and help students build a well-rounded personality.

In any good school, the educational experience extends beyond knowledge acquisition in the classroom. It’s essential that children have the opportunity to develop their character and pursue their interests, which is why extracurricular and co-curricular activities are necessary. A school that offers various extracurricular and co-curricular activities allows students of all ages, interests and backgrounds to find an activity that suits their physical lifestyle and personal passions.

GIIS is an international school where students receive tremendous opportunities to participate in both extracurricular and co-curricular activities. These activities are designed to promote holistic development, and they play an integral role in our 9GEMS framework. The cost of ECA & CCA is included in our affordable fee structure.

What are Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities?

● Extracurricular activities are activities that take place on the school campus but outside the classroom. Many of the extracurricular activities at GIIS are sports-based, but they are not all athletic activities. Our extracurricular activities are specifically designed to help students develop their personality as well as their physical aptitude.

● Co-Curricular activities are activities that take place on the school campus that are designed to supplement the academic curriculum. These activities also focus on personality development while helping students make real-world connections to the content they are learning in their courses.

How Do Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities Support Student Development?

At our international school in Singapore, we believe that students benefit when they participate in both extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Here are a few ways that our activities help support student development:

● They improve self-discipline in students. As extracurricular activities and co-curricular activities require participation outside the classroom, students naturally learn how to manage themselves and their time. They learn to balance the pressure of academics along with the requirements of their extracurricular activities.

● They help build self-esteem in children. Students often discover that they can explore their interests and passions through extracurricular and co-curricular activities. As they learn more about what they love, they become more confident, and their self-esteem grows exponentially.

● They allow students to develop their social skills. Students are able to meet and interact with new students when they participate in these activities, which helps them improve their social skills and teaches them how to work in a group setting.

● They give students a chance to have fun at school. These activities allow students to immerse themselves in something they genuinely enjoy, and it gives them more opportunities to be playful in the school setting.

● They have been shown to help improve academic performance. Students who participate in athletics and other extracurricular activities have been known to perform better in the classroom, partly due to their ability to manage their time and stay organised.

● They give students an opportunity to explore their interests. By participating in extracurricular and co-curricular activities, students can try new things and learn more about what they do like and what they do not enjoy as much.
