Nurturing creativity in your child through GIIS’ skills-based labs

Next-gen Learning

Skills-based learning is a vital part of modern education and a must for students to grow and thrive in the 21st-century world. At GIIS, our technologically advanced campus has over 40 next-gen purpose-built studios to enable our students to learn unique skills and competencies in a fast-evolving world driven by technology, innovation, and creativity.

Here we are highlighting some of our most popular studios, including the Radio/TV Studio, the Environment Lab, the Design and Technology (D&T) Lab, and the Keyboard Studio. As a ‘School of the Future’, GIIS nurtures students who are constantly building on their skills and learning to adapt to succeed in this ever changing world.

Radio/TV Studio

The Radio and TV Studios are a creative centre for students to express themselves and their individuality. Here, students are not just developing creativity but are able to gain hands-on experience with professional-grade production equipment.

They can conduct interviews, record conversations, perform a short play and learn to conduct themselves in an on-air setting. In this dedicated, hi-tech space, students are also able to explore, learn and master communication and other technical skills that can be transferred to future careers in radio and television or where presentation and public speaking skills are important.

The Radio and TV Studios are shared with other GIIS campuses, so more GIIS students benefit from our state-of-the-art facilities. Student productions are selectively broadcast on the internet, enabling an experience similar to real-world radio and television broadcasting. In addition, our cloud-based radio system allows students to collaborate within and outside school and across countries.

How do students benefit?

By using the Radio Studio, students are able to conduct interviews with experts in different fields in a podcast format. They are able to host shows that benefit the entire school community. The hands-on exposure to producing and recording enables students to explore the creation of  television and radio shows from different angles.

Our students get to learn about the skills required of sound engineers, producers, camera specialists as well as radio and television personalities. They also get to use editing tools and create their own content, such as short films, documentaries and more.

Environment Lab

The Environment Lab is where students create innovative solutions to serious problems like climate change. In this setting, students collaborate in the classroom and beyond.

Issues that students grapple within the Environment Lab have the potential to impact communities, the nation and even the world at large. Through GIIS’ initiatives like the Real World Challenge Convention (RWCC) and symposiums, students showcase their ideas and learn to hone their studies for practical purposes. The Environment Lab is also designed to teach students about urban farming.

How do students benefit?

The Environment Lab is a collaborative environment where students learn that their ideas and efforts can make a difference. Students participating in Environment Lab activities have worked on projects like a self-watering plant, which was showcased at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and other platforms.

Design & Technology Lab (D&T)

Our D&T lab is a place where students use tools, machines, circuit boards, 3-D printers and cutters to make new inventions that come to life before their eyes. All of these tools are available for students to explore and learn.

The D&T lab, like the other studios, wouldn’t be complete without our trained teachers to help students work safely, both independently and together.

How do students benefit?

This fully equipped laboratory enables students to make creations they could only dream about. In the D&T lab, students have opportunities to experiment and work on their inventions.

At GIIS’ D&T lab, students get a hands-on opportunity to explore and learn

Keyboard Studio

Music enables students to communicate ideas and express emotions freely. The GIIS Keyboard Studio contains 24 iMacs that all connect to a smart screen. During piano lessons, this helps students to get a closer look at what is being taught – it is like a one-on-one lesson. This also allows for greater student engagement and hands-on learning.

In the studio’s operating station, the teacher can mute or unmute keyboard stations, thus allowing the teacher to control noise levels and provide individual feedback to each student — all while other students in class practice at their own pace.

How do students benefit?

Many students relate to music and use it as an outlet for emotions they otherwise don’t know how to express. They also benefit from a well-rounded musical education and learn to use the state-of-the-art smart technology that makes the Keyboard Studio possible. In the Keyboard Studio, students with musical ability can explore their skills to determine if they would like to pursue a musical education or career.

GIIS’ unique opportunity for students

Students of all ages at GIIS are given this unique opportunity to explore and hone skills outside academics. At GIIS, we believe this holistic approach to learning enables our students to become better global citizens as they mature into adults. Our trained and experienced teachers encourage students to develop their skills and interests inside our 21st-century studios.
